What this is, honestly

A concept console. Scripted timings, an abstract map, invented incident data. It is not connected to an aircraft, a dispatch system or a live feed, and we would rather say so plainly than imply otherwise to an agency that would find out during procurement.

What it does represent accurately is the shape of the problem: the gap between a call landing and somebody having eyes on the scene, and what closing that gap changes for the officer in charge. The integration into your existing dispatch and records systems is the real work, and it is the part that gets skipped.

Where the rules stand

Over a thousand public safety agencies now hold waivers to fly beyond visual line of sight, and the FAA issued more between April 2025 and February 2026 than in the preceding seven years. Volunteer agencies became eligible, which matters for smaller departments.

And where they are going

Part 108 would replace case-by-case waivers with a standing framework. Agencies that built programs under the old process face migrating to the new one. There is also still no federal privacy floor, which is where these programs run into trouble locally rather than technically.


Most agencies do not fail at flying. They fail at integration.

The aircraft is the easy part. Getting it to launch from a dispatch event, put useful information in front of responding units, and satisfy a city council on privacy is where programs stall.
